Anyone ever take the trebles off of topwater plugs and replace them with single hooks.
Would like to her some pro's and con's.

Never tried it - but I like the idea. Sometimes it takes forever to get the fish off trebles.

Well I know people change them, just wondering if its for the better or worse.
Chalk says less hooks in the fishes favor. Maybe all them hooks is way bulky and thats why they miss em'.
I'm gonna try it.

I always remove the trebles and replace them with singles.
On small lures with two trebles, I remove the front one completely and replace the "tail" one with a single.
I have not noticed any short hits and as we return most of our fish, it makes netting and unhooking very, very easy.
I also pinch the barbs down, with a pair of pliers.

I will replace the hooks on my topwaters if I am fishing where a lot of grass is floating on the surface. Single kahle style hooks work good to help keep the grass of the hook and hook-ups seem to be as good with trebles. Once I switch one over I will usually not switch the hooks back even with no grass on the surface.

I never fish a lure with more than 2 trebles. If it has more I either take one off or replace all with J hooks in the 1/0-2/0 size.

It depends on the size of lure, and the hook manufacturer. But usually in the size #4 to 1/0. For lures like the skitterwalk and other slightly larger topwaters, try the something close to 1/0. But the sizes differ from manufacturer so much you kinda just to have to eye ball it and see what looks right. I am refering to kahle or shiner type hooks. Of course you can try other styles but for keeping the grass off they seem to work best.
