I wanted to ask you esteemed anglers what the problem is before I take it to a shop

50 hp Johnson starts great, 1-2 minutes later alarm goes off indicating "low oil" best I can tell by the alarm chart, motor is definitely cold still so not over heating. Can't be low oil - oil is mixed in with the gas and I KNOW it's in there!

Took it out for a run - alarm goes off shortly after starting - ran it anyway - alarm finally stops (checking that motor isn't overheating which it isn't) run for miles, stopping and starting, no alarm. Great Figured it maybe sat too long and needed running.

Go home - start motor to wash it out - alarm goes off Back to square one

I assume that this used to be a VRO motor and it was disconnected and that is why you mix the oil now If so, the low oil alarm should have been disconnected at the same time, are you sure it's not the overheat alarm That could go off at lower RPM's if the impeller is getting worn out

Yes it was disconnected several years ago and I also assumed the alarm for the automatic oiler was disconnected at the same time - especially since the alarm hasn't ever gone off till recently -

The chart says overheat is a continuous sound and low oil is short beeps - this sound is short beeps for sure and motor isn't overheated.

The impeller was changed a few weeks ago - has never worked better! The motor still had the original impeller.

Maybe it's a faulty alarm

Is this the first time out with the new impeller? If it is, I would suspect the the pumper they used when disconnecting the VRO has been knocked loose during the impeller install the only puzzling thing is the stopping of the alarm while under way "possible that the torque of the motor is making it get a connection"

We had the same thing happen with our 25 Rude a few years ago. Turned out to be a bad temp alarm.

The beeping does indicate low oil. Pull the cowling and look to see if the tan wire has been pilled loose from the VRO pump. If not, pull it loose. If so, has the connector been taped or insulated in some way? If not, tape it up. The tan wire is the alarm sensor wire.

WHAT TIN CAN SAID, THAT WIRE IS PROBABLE HANGING LOOSE AND MAKIN CONTACT WITH THE ENGINE, COMPLETEING THE CIRCUIT MAKIN THE ALARM GO OFF.

I had left for the day when ya'll responded so just got reply. Don't know what or where a VRO pump is but I can certainly look for a tan wire going to something when I get back home

Should be on the port side of the motor. It'll have a couple of hoses going to it, one being the fuel line. You should be able to trace the fuel line to the pump. Looks like a 3"+/- flattened ball. Should be the first big thing the fuel line goes to after coming through the cowling.
