Great Econfina Weekend

I have to put the last three days of fishing as one of the top three trips in my young book of saltwater fishing trips. Friday we arrived around noon and went straight for the redfish for the last of the outgoing. picked up two. the tide fell like a rock b/c of the north wind so we didn't fish but about 2 hours. We then went and caught some very large trout and had 6 keepers in the 18-19 inch range and threw back 4 over 20 inches with the biggest at 22 and a quarter. Had to leave the fish biting b/c of the low tide.

Saturday we were greeted with the best weather i have ever fished on the gulf. no humidity and about 75 degrees and just a little breeze all day. Must have caught around 45 trout and had our limit by 1 on popping corks and topwater. Then went in to redfish and caught 5 redfish with the biggest at 25 inches. We also had several blues and rock bass.

Sunday was very chilly and a very low tide. Luckily we were out there at first light and beat the bad low, but we still had to idle from a quarter mile to the mouth out to about a mile. once we got out there we were greeted with a brisk 10-15 mph north wind and 55 degrees. it was chilly. we caught and caught and caught trout all on topwater on a grass flat that i found. they wouldn't hit anything but topwater. all fish were in the 1.5 to 2 feet range. had trouble inking out a limit because of so many small fish and went over to another hole that has really produced this year and had a limit by noon again except they would only hit the popping cork this time. also caught several blues and saw a ton of them. they are very big blues also. finished the trip up with a redfish in close on a very fast incoming tide.

great weekend. great weather. finally got a digital camera and will try to post the pics.

Good job volguy  As far as pic posting from a digital...do you have any software on your PC that's associated with your camera? If you do and you have a USB cable connection from your PC to your camera the software should lead you through off loading the pictures from you camera to your PC. From there you would need to use one of the picture processor sites to get it into a post here. Tell us where you are in the scheme of things and someone can help. We'd love to see them fish  :D

Great report!

Very nice weekend down at the Anky! Those extreme low tides made for some real fun :o at times! My son and I fished up behind
Cobbs Rocks on Fri and Sat and limited and then came back toward
Anky and fished creeks for reds. I went out by myself for some
"moonlitin" at 3am Sun morning. A truly beautiful run to the flats
and began immediately catching smaller trout on topwater. Then the
wind started so I laid down on floor of boat and took a nap until sunrise
and headed back to same location for some more trout. I recall seeing
another boat out so that must have been you folks.
Saw several large tarpon making jumps on runs to and from
east Aucilla area. Everyone in campground reported good catches
at different areas and depths. My son and I ran into Tom Keels and
his tourney partner on Sat am. Next few weeks should be great.
It will be two weeks before I get back unless Wilma forces a change
in plans. :(
