MudDucker, his son Drew, and myself hit the water, err...ummm I mean mud at daybreak this morning at the Fen. Was no problem in MudDucker's Gator Trax with the mud motor. Hit the flats east of R.I. and each of us started chunking a different lure. I don't remember what caught the first fish. The ticket seemed to be a green SWA eel under the c.t. For about 20 minutes we wore 'em out! Got 3 keepers out of that deal. My 2 were the biggest. Just kiddin' Muddy! Fished all the way around R.I. Got into a mess of reds on the back side but none would commit. I mean they were everywhere! Nice ones too. Couldn't get them to bite. Caught a few more short trout and the wind shifted. Decided to call it a day. Made it back to the hill around 2:30. Had a gooood grouper sammich at Roy Deal's, (because there were no oysters). Met some of MudDucker's kin folks there.
Total for the day:
1 blue million short trout
2 18" trout
1 16" trout
1 20" trout
Couldn't see bottom anywhere. There is some grass though. We fished mirrolures and DOA's real slow and would bring up grass. We fished from 6'-1 1/2'. Caught most of the fish in the 3-4' range I'd say. The only time we saw bottom was right before we hit it.
