Was thinking of getting a new trout reel. I want something kinda small, but also will do the job. Its rated for 6 lb line , I think i'll go with power pro so i can juice it up some and still have plenty of line & strength. Question is i believe Penn has changed their numbering, and i've never held one of these. Anyone got one ? or remember looking at one at the store ? I'm sure i can't go wrong either way but was just wondering ..

Are you going to retire the Snoopy reel?

The Saltwater finally ate it up ! but i do plan on using the 3' rod, its great for getting those long cast in. I think i'm getting a new one of those for Christmas so thats why i'm not buying it.

The Penns are good reels, they seem a little heavy for their size, compared to Shimanos for instance.

I've had a 4400 forever and got another last year. I've also got a Penn 360 Slammer. It cost more but I really like it. I don't think you can possibly go wrong as far as durability and toughness are concerned. You just have to like how it feels. I had a Stratic and liked it but had some handle trouble and traded it in for the second 4400.

Hi Frank,
I recently purchased a couple 440SSG reels, and I really like them. I believe the 430 would be an excellent flats (trout) reel. I ordered mine from fishermansheadquarters.com and saved about $30 per reel compared to walmart price. I believe you'll be satisfied with the reel. Good luck.
