What a day.
Birddig pulled up in front of my house about 11:30 this morning, with boat in tow. He opened his truck door, and stepped out with a gun in his hand. He then ordered me to get my fishin stuff and get in the truck. In fear for my life I did what he said.
We launched at a very low Lighthouse pool at around 12:30. We got out of the canal easily, thanks to the 18' boat with the 135 Merc plowing a ditch ahead of us. As we were leaving the canal, Birddog asked " Do you think we can get into Stony?"
I told him "NO, we can't get into Stony. It's bone dry right now". He replied "Sure we can. Lets go".
I was right. We didn't make it. We got about half way through the rock garden and Birddog says " I thing we're gonna.........................We're stuck". I'll let y'all guess what I said.
After 45 minutes of good company and pleasant conversation, the boat was floating again. After another 45 minutes of drifting, we were in the mouth of Stony. By this time the water was really moving.
I'll say at this point, our intent for the day was as much exploring as fishing. We rode the current, casting at every good spot we saw. We followed the creek all the way to the blown out spot in the dike of the pool you drive by coming into the lighthouse.
The trip was worth it just for the exploration. To add to the pleasure of the trip, we caught 4 or 5 reds and 2 trout. None of the reds were very big. 1 might have been a legal keeper. The trout I caught was about 17". Birddog will probably post later that his trout was a monster.
Not a lot of fish, but well worth the trip.
Thanks for the ride, Birddog.
