fishing off the beach

Fishing off the gulf beach has been the ticket all week long here in Port ST Joe. We have landed all sizes of Red Fish , Trout , Black Drum, Sheepshead, and Whiting. Are main bite has come from fresh dead shrimp using a double fluorocarbon drop rig with 2/0 to 4/0 hook set with the 2 oz pyramid weight . A very close second is the shrimp scented Fish- Bites used on the same type rig. You don’t have to cast out along way . Just toss it out there wait a few minutes if you don’t get a bite throw out a little further until you find the bite.
Here in gulf county you can still run the beach with a beach driving permit., Pets are allowed on the beach and with the fish biting it makes for a nice winter outing with the family . And even with the cooler afternoons all you have to do is build the kids a small fire and brake out the hotdogs and you are able to fish a few hours longer. Don’t forget a few chairs or buckets , your rod holder, and build your fire below the high tide line. Good luck and have a safe trip!
