How do you do it? I mean how, when, where, and what terminal tackle to catch trout, sheepies, reds and those no limit fish. I don't know jack about river fishing. :-D Also under what specific conditions is best?

Use the same terminal tackle you would use for bottom fishing on the flats, a jig and grub, or a shrimp on the bottom. Start fishing the deep holes around the bars in the lower river, and work your way all the way up above Newport. Fish the creeks along the way. A few years ago we caught trout on jigs and grubs in the middle of the river, in 15 feet of water.

This sounds like a vague, or maybe even a bogus answer to your question. But this time of year, the fish are holed up, and you have to find them. The best way to find them is to keep your line wet.

Generally, the bends are where the deeper holes will be.

When we fish the Steinhatchee Reef , we just use a 2 0 hook and a whole shrimp. We catch plenty of big ones.
