Port St Joe Report

The bite is still on in the Gulf county canal . The trout are as thick as ever , although the Black drum have slowed down. The Redfish bite is stronger with fish in the slot size . The white bass and stripers are plentiful. The sheepshead are small , yet you will have a few keepers .
The last few weeks live and dead shrimp have done well with dead bringing larger fish. We are using a Carolina rig with a # 4 live bait hook from Mustad a 2 oz lead and 15 lbs fluorocarbon leader about 18 inches long. We are also using a jig head tipped with Fish-Bites crab scent pulled slowed across the bottom. This works well with slack water. Trolling has done well also using a green grub on a ¾ oz jig head. The dead shrimp by far has been the best bait.
St Joe bay has produced a ton of Ladyfish with only a few Redfish . We are using a gold Capt.‘s mikes spoon tossed into every pot hole we drift across. We tie our spoon straight to our line with an improved clinch knot and keep a check on the condition of the knot and line after each fish landed . Haven’t seen any of the large schools in over two weeks and we have made several trips around the bay in search of them.
Trout season is about to close , so if its trout your taste buds are needing you best get out there this week !
