A buddy had promised a to give me a few flies after I got set up with a fly rod and today was the day, my first attempt with the fly rod. The wind wasn’t cooperating but I just knew I’d have it down quick. Sure. Let’s just say I could have done better. It was easy in the back yard. My thinking is that I shouldn’t have started with a weighted fly. While waiting for the wind to drop we spin fished for a couple hours and found 8 to 10 “just legalâ€

Way to break new ground Lit! :D I still remember the evening that I caught a 6lb bass on a pop'n bug and fly rod in Central Florida Lake. Felt like I needed two more hands :-D I've got one flyrod hanging in the garage and another (browning) in a case in the closet. I haven't used either one in probably 10 years or more. Might have to give it a try this year when the spanish or lady fish are tear'n things up :D

Great report man!

I have an ok salt water fly rod but I think it is cursed

Every time I took it out to use The fish, weather, waves, wind, something always got in the way. I have yet to catch a saltwater fish on fly. So congrats to you for sure!
This will be the summer though. Now that I'm Yakin it there is no excuse.

Thanks all!
It was pure comedy when the fish was on I had to figure out how to reel and keep tension on the fish. It's a tricky situation when you already have a lot of line stripped & you have to reel too. It's like having two rods at the same time -or that's what it felt like to me.
My actual words were, "What the hell do I do now!!!"
I sort of figured it out and may bit a little more prepared next time.

Sounds like a pretty good day to me.

I've never tried fishing saltwater with a fly rod, but I have some very good memories of me and my dad catching bream and small bass that way at Lake Eufala. You're making me think that I might oughta try it out on saltwater some time.

Thanks for the report
