The other fellows in the third boat got a late start account of one of them having the green apple quick step.
The weather was a little cool, probably 45* or so, but with no wind, it warmed up pretty quick.
The water in the bay was smooth and beyond the pass, it was just rippling. Temp ranged 59 to 61 or so. We started in about 40' of water. Clarity was good.
Short of it. We didn't do much good with the grouper or anything for that matter. 'Fished 6 to 8 miles off the east end of DI within sight of one another. Freddy and them started off with picking up their only keeper of the day with a 23" gag. I dropped a jig into the mouth of a 14-15" black bass. That was it for us for the day.
The other guys showed up on the water about 11 or 11:30 and missed what early bite there was all together.
We fished mostly with jigs and tried trolling a stretch a couple of miles. Freddy's crew and the other guys from Ga, fished LYs and squid.
Because it was so slow, and the first time Wat'ser name and I had the chance for just the two of us to fish our old boat, I decided to make a boat ride out of the rest of the trip. She's really not up to speed on GPSing and bottom searching (not that I am). So about 1:30, I decided to let her run us out to the O Tower to check things out, out that way.
Nice ride, and lots of fish echos around it. We dropped jigs and LYs down without any success.
Wat'ser name was happy, though, because there was a lot of birds there to watch. It didn't take long for us to figure out ya need to be on the upwind side of the tower. You know what the say about the other thing birds do besides eating.
We left around 4 or so and was back at the ramp around 5:30 after a survey of the outside east end of SGI. Dennis really did a trick on the dunes.
Freddy and his crew did get into a bunch of short grouper (about 12 or 14 of them) about 4PM or so and kinda saved their day in the catchin department.
Final tally for all was: 1 gag, 3 blk fish for Freddy and them- 1 blk fish for us- 3 or 4 grunts for the other party.
Over all, it was a nice day spent riding around. The wx and water was great, but the catchin sucked.
Nothin spectacular about the pics but here they are..
