Lake Hall - Feb 5

Post by Terrier »

Got out for a few hours this afternoon. I figured it would be tough with the bright sun and strong wind, and it was. I only got one bite but it was a nice 3lb chunk that fought hard. I got it on a crankbait about an hour before sunset.

Is that lake pretty good to fish? I have never fished it before!

Lake Hall

It can be a tough lake - the water is deep (down to 35 feet in places) and normally very clear. It is full of weeds that will grow up from 15' down and by summer top out on the surface. But you can always catch something there - normally "Lake Hall Specials", 15" fiesty little things. Plus some good bream and specks. There are big bass in there, caught most reliably on shiners from what I hear. I like to use senkos around the lily pads and jig worms and T rigs at the deep weed lines. Watermelon-colored soft plastics are good choices for Lake Hall. Cranks and jerkbaits work pretty good this time of year but you will be hanging up in weeds alot. Cloudy, rainy days are best on Lake Hall, and night fishing in the summer if you buy an all-hours pass from the park. It is an electric motor lake only; its good for canoes and kayaks but this time of year until summer the wind is always blowing and always in the wrong direction.

Even if you don't catch anything, its a beautiful setting.
