ABOUT THE BEST WAY TO FISH THE REEF NOW AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR IS TO DROP A COUPLE OF STRETCH 25 OR 30'S AND TROLL OVER ALL OF THE STRUCTURE YOU CAN FIND ON THE BOTTOM MACHINE. NO USE TRYING TO FIND ANY PINS, THEY ARE GONE FOR NOW.

Hey Red, just a thought, asking what the best way to fish St Marks reef is like asking what's the best way to invest money. There are a lot of people who have fished these places since they were kids and could very well come home empty handed from St Marks Reef today. Why? There are at least 25 good answers before noon and 15 of those might change before 2 pm. I find it helpful to think about specific species of fish and then anticipate where they might be based on the best conditions for them. FUTCHCAIRO was talking grouper because that is a possibility today at St Marks Reef, but I wouldn't call it likely.
I'll be up a creek.
Just trying to help.

It depends on time of year and conditions. Right now, I would think that maybe there would be some sheepshead, which you would fish with fiddlers or small pieces of shrimp. Very few, if any, legal grouper and I wouldn't troll for them, too cold. Cut alewives or other stink bait, and chances are you would catch very little of anything.

About March or April the fishing there should pick up.

Be sure to take a marker with you so you know where the reef is once you get ther. Not many land marks out ther to keep you on target. Then read what LIttoral said.... gonna be too rough saturday to be out there unless your boat is 19-40'...

In all seriousness, I think eddie joe's giving you the straight poop. That's why I'll be up a creek next time I go too.
