How should I fish the St Marks Reef.
A unique website dedicated to fishing information from Florida's Northern Big Bend. This includes the area from the Econfina River west to the Apalachicola River

Hey Red, just a thought, asking what the best way to fish St Marks reef is like asking what's the best way to invest money. There are a lot of people who have fished these places since they were kids and could very well come home empty handed from St Marks Reef today. Why? There are at least 25 good answers before noon and 15 of those might change before 2 pm. I find it helpful to think about specific species of fish and then anticipate where they might be based on the best conditions for them. FUTCHCAIRO was talking grouper because that is a possibility today at St Marks Reef, but I wouldn't call it likely.FUTCHCAIRO wrote:ABOUT THE BEST WAY TO FISH THE REEF NOW AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR IS TO DROP A COUPLE OF STRETCH 25 OR 30'S AND TROLL OVER ALL OF THE STRUCTURE YOU CAN FIND ON THE BOTTOM MACHINE. It depends on time of year and conditions. Right now, I would think that maybe there would be some sheepshead, which you would fish with fiddlers or small pieces of shrimp. Very few, if any, legal grouper and I wouldn't troll for them, too cold. Cut alewives or other stink bait, and chances are you would catch very little of anything.redhead201 wrote:How should I fish the St Marks Reef.
