Hi all Captain G here, and yes I know there is only so much you can report on the Gulf County Canal , but if you are wanting fish for the table then head on over and fish the canal. However be prepared for the amount of ladyfish that have moved in. If you fish a carolina rig the ladyfish will leave you alone, but a light wire jig fished with shrimp will bring them to the boat almost every cast. The Stripers , White bass , and Black Drum have slowed with the Sheepshead bite picking up. And if your lucky you will catch a new taramar rod with a new sprois4000 reel spoiled with 12 lbs power pro high vis yellow line lost over board . Lost by a customer that set the rod on the deck with the bait in the water while picture taking. Don’t forget No Trout February is here.
The bay has let us fish a few good days. The Trout again closed for February are in the deep area channels or cuts and so are Slot Reds. The Lady Fish and the Red Fish are both hitting gold spoons pulled across the pot holes, or with live shrimp on a jig head pulled along the drop offs. Did find some good Redfish Action on the outside of the cape using a stretch 25 casting to a school on top.
Good luck and have a safe trip
