Took #1 (13 yr. old son) and went wade fishin at my old walk-in spot on the west side of Goose Creek Bay. After reading Sir Reel's report, it must have been much warmer where we were. Got there to coincide with the high tide. Wanted to get there earlier and fish the rise, but things just didn't work out that way. Put my castnet in my pack, figuring on the mullet being up in the shoreline grass at high tide. Walked in along the edge of the woods and saw lots of fresh hog sign.

Got to the spot. I gave him a rod with a Catch 2000 on it. Advised him on where to stand and which direction to cast, BAM, 20 inch trout on the first cast. Stayed until sunset fishing the falling tide and did absolutely nothing else the entire rest of the time. Even the mullet didn't cooperate.

Followed the shoreline walking out and saw a lot more fresh hog sign. Stopped by the old Upchurch place and threw a few casts, but did nothing there, either. Finally just called it quits with the bugs chewing just before dark.

Funny how that 1st cast can often be the the best cast of the day. Glad you got out with your son.
