Got out with a buddy of mine in his boat. Its a beauty. Put in at Mashes Sands. Ran out to about 60ft in his sparkling 23-ft Sailfish 236. Couple stops with limited action. Threw back a NICE red snapper. Then boated a 24-inch gag. Couple more shorts then the bite shut off.
Had a MONSTER on the line spit the hook 3/4 of the way up he was a MAN he had me over the gunnel.
Then about 1.5 miles West of K-Tower boat won't fire. Buddy hand-started the 200 OX66 and it just died. Battery was off-the-shelf new as in yesterday bought at West Marine - still had a UPC on it. Connections were rock-solid.
Got on VHF called Panacea Harbor Marina and asked for Sea Tow. Guages above power steering were out but electronics mounted on top of console worked fine.
Finally thought about it "no way THAT battery isn't starting THAT motor" captain fooled with the Perko connections and we fired right up. Told Sea Tow to stand-by and ran into Mashes Sands. Got the Sailfish on the trailer and cut the engine wouldn't fire again, no power, no trim
. Drive home with the skeg right up close and cumfy with 98.
Stoped at the Crawfordville Coin Wash and put a shine on her anyway. Will do a post mortem and figure it out.
Shows how a $50 part can make 50K worth of boat and other gear pretty useless.
BTW- grouper fillets on my grill in a bit and then maybe the bikini contest at AJs tonight?????? Wife is out of town.
