St. Marks River 3/25

Man, I gotta' get a job. All this fishin' is wearin' me out. Just got back from the St. Marks River with the 5 yr. old. Mama had supper ready when we walked in the door. Now I'm sittin' here 'bout to go to
. And I still have to organize my gear and get set up for tomorrow.

Great time and caught some fish. We launched at Newport in the middle of the morning and went up, after a short stop to see Scott about a couple dozen live shiners. I was afraid the wind was going to be a pain, but it wasn't really that bad on the river. Sure it was whippin' down at the coast. She limited out on bass. Her 5 to my 1, but she had the priority. Her big one was 18". Funny watching a five year old girl fight a 2 lb. bass on a 6 lb. spinning outfit. Looks like a grown man hooked to a 200 lb. tuna in miniature.
Maybe I need to make her a little fighting chair for the bow of the canoe.
Observation:
A 14' pushpole in a 14' 7" canoe is a pain. 8' makes a good stake out pole and is somewhat good for poling, but a little short. Something about 10 should be just right.
Stopped at one spot to stake out. Went to jab the pole down, KA-THONK. Tried again a few feet over, KA-THONK. Difficult to shove an eight foot piece of bamboo through limestone. We threw a clove hitch over a snag sticking up, but then were too far from the specific spot we wanted to fish. Oh well, can't catch 'em all.
