I was able to get the Icom and antenna installed yesterday evening after I met you at the boat ramp. I was not able to get any talk on the radio, but I am too far north from the coast. It appears to be working fine.

Thanks - Steve Stinson

Can you hear the weather report? I know that doesn't test the talk but at least you can check receive.

Chug -

Tried Channel 1 for weather and can not hear anything. Actually, can't hear anything on any channel. It may be due to my boat being blocked on two sides by my garage and house.

I am charging my handheld now to see if I can get a signal. I will move the boat and try again, then check the antenna connection, then try at the coast if I don't get if figured out by the weekend.

I get power and static until I increase the squelch, so that part is working just fine.

Also make sure you are set to U.S. channels and not International channels.

Alrighty then - Chug, you got a instruction manual for this thing? I asked one of the guys at work for the weather channel number and he said channel one or two. Nothing on either of those.

I charged my handheld VHF and was able to talk back and forth with my wife across the front yard, so I think we are okay.

I don't know where the manual is for it. I think the weather here is on channel 4 as well. Just hit the "wx" button then you can flip through the weather channels.

Here's the deal -
No weather or any other chatter on any channel.
I can communicate with both ways with somebody else operating my handheld VHF on any channel.

Any suggestions? Anybody know how to check an antenna?

Thanks - Steve

Sure sounds like an antenna problem to me, if you can talk at close range.
