Put the boat in the water at 6:30am at the lighthouse. Had my wife riding point. We headed out westward toward Live Oak Island and points south of Patty's Island. Water temp averaged 72-73 degrees. There was a light wind out of the SSE. I had rigged the wife up with a CT and a Jig that had been productive in the past. Immediately wife picks off the first Keeper trout- in the cooler it went. I spent the day trying different lures, jigs poppers and everything else in the tool box. Every time I stopped to tie on a new lure, I had to stop and remove a fish from the wife's line. This sequence continued all day. She lost two good keepers boat side because she just couldn't seem to set the hook properly, or I couldn't position the landing net properly. The wind picked up around 11am and by 2:00pm was up to 15- 20+ knots water went into whitecaps. (I have completely lost faith in NOAA forecasts) Wife continued to pick up trout, I couldn't seem to hold my chin in the right position, or I was just not sitting right (couldn't catch anything). Got soaked heading back to the landing. Wife had a great time- picked off 20-30 trout, I didn't get any at all. Gave away the only keeper to someone down by the river. All in all it was a good day, wife was really happy because she out fished me. She needed a good day on the water. I had promised her she'd catch fish, and she did just that. Hope everyone is having a happy Easter Sunday..
