Was able to get down to St. Marks last Wed and Thurs for a little inshore fishing with a friend. We left Shell Island at daybreak and tried the bars at the moputh of the East River for a while with no strikes. Then headed to the west flats knowing that the wind would be up most of the day. Absolutely nothing there. It was my friend's first time trout fishing, and I was expecting him to call me on all my stories at any time, but he was patient. We took the trip over to a litttle east of the Mare where I had fished a lot last year and finally started catching on jigs and a couple of Catch 2000s. All were from 14-14.875". Finally in the afternoon I put a 20" fish in the boat. We dunked a few shrimp as well but never caught the first fish on live bait. The next day we decided to predominantly fish the DOA and Gulp baits under a CT. First three casts I made I caught more of those just short fish. We caught a good many and one 15.5" er before dead low tide sent the fish into hiding. I will digress a moment and say that the water was incredibly clear except for where I caught the largest fish on Wed., but we got few other bights in the cloudier area. Anyway, I had to leave a little early to make it back to Macon for an important soccer match so we decided to head back west to be nearer the river mouth for a quick exit when the witching hour arrived. Before we could get to the bird racks it seemd that there were birds everywhere and fish cutting the service in every direction covering probably a half to a square mile. We stopped and threw everything we had. We immediately got hookups on ladies, blues and a few Spanish, plus one more keeper trout. It was mostly a trashfish extravaganza, but was a blast. Over 60-90 minutes we got around fifty ladis and blues to the boat, one 20 inch Spaninsh plus eventually cut off two Mirrolures and two DOAs to other Spanish. It was a blast, plus we only had a few fish to clean.

Will be back next week for whatever the flats have to offer.

Blue's trash fish? Have you ever ate one? If you bleed them and ice them immediatly they are pretty good cooked that day. Also cut off the red meat that is where the strong flavor is. I love them fried with cajun fish fry( in the blue bag with the catfish on it.)
