Red Fishin 4/17

Launched at the lighthouse pool about 8.

Water temp was around 73. There was a light southwest breeze. It was somewhat overcast. And the fish cooperated. Second cast yielded a 16" red. Caught 3 in the first 10 casts. One was 24", and will make very good blackened redfish sandwiches. Caught a total of 10 reds, from 14" to 26", during the day. 6 of the 10 came on a hard jerkbait. The other four came on a gold spoon. There was a lone 19" trout in there where the reds live. It hit the jerkbait, too. I could not get bit on a walk the dog bait, or a chug bug this morning. They wanted a slow, not so rowdy presentation. They hit the jerkbait until the wind picked up. The 10 mentioned were boated. There were several more that missed the bait.

Sometimes these reds have me scratching my head. I had a large red hit my spoon this afternoon. Took quite a bit of line. I faught this fish for about 45 seconds, then, the fish spit the spoon. How do they do that?

NOAA was pretty close with their wind forecast for this morning. But they blew this afternoon. The wind blew, too. It was whitecapping in 2 ft. of water by 2:00.

Back on the trailer at 5:15.

I wish, I wish, I wish for 1 day of decent fishing without getting beat up by the wind. :-?

I think you may be due for a refresher course. Maybe you've forgotten a few tricks I've taught you.

I agree with Chalk, "quit yer whining. "

I suppose it did sound like I was whining. The only bad part of the whole day was the wind. I know I had a good day.

I know what you mean about spitting that spoon, after ripping drag momentarily. It'll baffle you. :smt013
I had it happen to me on Saturday.
