Arrived at the Aucilla ramp right after low tide this morning. Had no trouble lauching in the hole. River temp at the mouth of the river was 71.4 degrees. Headed east toward Econfina about 2-3 miles. We encountered something I have never seen in over 40 years of fishing Aucilla. There were thousands of acres, in close, of yellow grass, that was out of the water in some places. The water for hundreds of acres was yellow....I guess from the pollen in the grass. I know not why. Something was tailing all over this area. We saw hundreds of tails...out of the water. They would spook in front of the boat. The grass was so bad, even topwater plugs were useless. We would come in with huge clumps of grass 100% of the casts that were made. It mostly looked like mullet....but we never saw one of the fish for a good identity. After many casts by all 3 of us....we gave up and went on to look for trout.

Got no bites at the first place tried....near the end of the oyster bars. Went on over to Econfina....almost streight out from the river entrence...about 1-2 miles...where a friend had good luck yesterday, Sunday. Not a bite was had.
Moved about 1 mile east where some other boats were....and proceeded to strike out.
Headed on back toward Aucilla...in close to shore..about 1 mile....and ran into the new grass spoken of earlier. It was impossible to fish in it.
AT 12 noon we had 0 fish in the boat.....but...due south of the ditch we got into the best catch of the year. Right at high tide...and after...untill we left at 1445 hours. Almost excluesively on Gulp jigs....white... streight lining.
We got the limit....15....and headed in for one of the most unusual days fishing ever. :)

Yeah, I was in it two weekends ago. The stuff was very thick for alot of acres, and impossible to fish. Not sure whats going on with it. The stuff has been there for several years at least, but I've never seen it that thick before this year.

Hey Fish Masterson, Is it that "spagetti grass"? Don't know the real name for the stuff.
