Hey I was wondering how you guys fish Chug Bugs, Mirror Lures, and lures like Redfine. Since im new to "lure" fishing and since I live real close to Lake Jackson I have been thinking about going out and just chucking some lures so I can get better at working them.

I fish ChugBugs using braid line with a fluorocarbon leader on a
limber tip M or ML spinning rod. The design allows both a "spitting" action from the concave face and also a "walk the dog" motion. This setup allows natural action of the bait without tons of effort. I do the same with
Top Pups,etc. for their "walk the dog" actions. About the only thing
I alter involves using a pretty constant movement for reds and frequent stops for trout. I always attempt to work lures with the rod tip low at about 75-90 degrees to the plug so I can point to lure with a strike
while taking up slack.

One thing for sure...you start throwing those in Lake Jackson and some
of "dem ole green trout gonna get fired up!"

Yeah I just have been trying to get the specific motions of these lures. What I mean by that is how to do walk the dog motion etc etc.

Walking the dawg will take a little practice to get the timing down, but you basically just give the rod tip a slight pop to make the lure dart to one side, then pop it again, and it will dart to the other side. Just play with how hard to pop the lure to get it to stay in the water and dart side to side. Once you get it down, just vary the speed and intensity, according to what the fish respond to the best.
As far as redfins, them thangs don't catch no fish, but if you must throw one, there are all sorts of ways to fish it, so just play around with various retrieves until you get tired of not catching anything. Then cut it off and dispose of it. When you get ready to dispose of it let me know and I'll send you my address so you can mail it to me. I know the best way to get rid of them sorry lures.

The trick to walking the dog is to pull the lure while the line is slack. That will make it dart to one side or another. If you pull when the line is tight it will come straight to you.

Walking the dog is a kin to juggling. Its all timing and hand eye coordination.

Gotta agree, the braid is particularly helpful to "impart" action on all topwater.
Otherwise the described methods here are excellent.

You guys should try the Swimm'n Sammy made by luky craft. They are easy to use as far as getting the walking the dog action you are looking for. I have taken so many fish with this lure, actually as far as fishing top water, it is about all I use anymore.

I've got a Sammy but I'm afraid to use it with my luck of losing topwater lures on big fish.

If you guy's are scared you should get a bull dog.

Rapalas, top dogs and excalibers are the best in a litttle bit of a bone color.Dark colors if it is overcast or stained water, I don't like the power pro type lines but the spieder wire types rock for offshore.They tangled and twisted too much probably cause of the slack in the line.I like the berkley smooth casting 6 pound no leaders.Also if you put some gamigatsu hooks on your lures it ups the hookup factor. go topwater or go home lol

I just go to walmart and get differnt topwaters for a couple bucks apiece. then if i lose one its no big deal.
