Well if ya look at the tides for today, there was no water movement. And, NOAA mised again, sorta. Got a late start and launched at 0800 this morning. There was a 5 mph breese out of the west. Went to my "can always count on 1 red" hole. Nobody home. Continued on my merry way. Used the new poling platform, and poled about a mile of shoreline. I found a school of about 8 large reds in a little cove. Positioned the boat and staked it out. Took a look and they're still there. Thought about presentation. Sent a bait past the school. They didn't move. OK, I'll work the bait back through them and one of them will eat it.Worked the bait to within 15 feet of the school and every one of them turned and left the country.

That was the story for the day. The fish weren't feeding. Aside from that school, I saw maybe 5 other reds all day.

I did hit one area, while looking for reds, that was holding good trout. First one on was probably over 18". Half way back to the boat it turned the bait loose. Had that happen 4 times before finalliy landing the first fish. 19". Managed to land one more at 20" before they moved on.

Then, around 10:30, the wind truned from west to south, and kicked up to a steady 20 mph. So much for poling. Tried to fish more shore line with the trolling motor. The south wind was just too much to fight.

Moved out to deeper water and started drifting. Caught about 15 short trout. At 1600 I had seen all the wind I wanted. Eased my way back to the lighthouse and loaded at 1700.

High tide is at 7:06 PM, this evening. Isuspect, if the wind lays down, you could tear um up between 7:30 and dark. :-?

Things appear to be looking up even if you didn't slay 'em.

HEY JOHN, GLAD YOU WERE ABLE TO PUT SOME MEAT IN THE BOX, WE HAD A HARD TIME TUES. TO GET ANY TABLE FARE, OR EVEN CATCH ANYTHING. BUT HAD A GOOD TIME WHILE WE WERE THERE.
JOHN I AM HAVING A TIME WITH MY GEAR SHIFTER, IT IS HARD TO GET INTO FORWARD GEAR AND THEN IT IS EXTRA HARD TO GET IT BACK OUT OF FORWARD, I KNOW THERE IS AN ADJUSTMENT YOU CAN MAKE TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM BUT FOR THE LIFE OF ME I CAN NOT REMEMBER HOW I DID THIS. THE SHIFTER AND GEAR SHIFT IS ALL IN ONE WITH THE LITTLE RELEASE BUTTON UNDER THE SHIFTER HANDLE. I BELIEVE YOU HAD A V-4 ON THE BOAT WHEN WE WENT WITH YOU, THAT IS WHAT I HAVE, EVINRUDE 85 ONCE YOU GET IT IN GEAR THAT THING FLIES EVEN AT 2/3 THROTTLE. GOT ANY IDEAS YA MIGHT SHOOT TO ME, I WOULD APPRECIATE VERY MUCH.

19" and 20" trouts ain't so bad.

Sounds like you got a little action out on the flats too.

I've been totally out of commission for the last month. Ain't got to fish at all.

Hope I catch 17 fish when I get a chance to get out this weekend (if the weather allows). :smt026

Pa, there is a roller pin in those old control boxes, that tends to get out of place. When it does, the control lever gets stiff, and the cold start lever doesn't act just right. Sounds like that may be your problem.

I have one of those control boxes, if ya need any parts.

Any time, Pa. Let me know if I can help. I don't mind taking those old boxes apart. I do mind putting them back together.
