Pinfish vs. "pinfish" with a spot at the base of t

Has anyone noted one of these to be better/inferior to the other in terms of catching bottom fish?

You're talking about what we have always called a Virginia Spot or possibly a Sailors Choice. They are different from a pinfish.

I like em all. :-D Usually the Sailors Choice runs bigger and makes a great Amberjack bait. Either one dropped in front of a hungry grouper will produce.
You just can't fix stupid.

Those Sailors' Choice are not nearly as hearty as regular ole pinfish...
when cutting strips they seem to work OK.
It may be that my sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

I've seemed to have better luck with the "unspotted" ones. I don't know why, maybe they taste better.
