I am looking to replace my homemade buoy marker with a store bought type. Any recommendations? Tired of winding the string around the clorox bottle.

I wind mine around an old milk jug. Cheaper than buying something.

A big 'ol Cheer detergent jug. Tie the string to the handle. Use one of those big pyramid sinkers. Drop it and the string in the bottle and crossthread the cap on there. Not a real snug fit but beats wrapping string. Pull the cord and weight out, tighten the lid, mark your spot. Cheer is good becuse the jug is orange. Those green ones work too. Just can't remember the name of the detergent. Maybe Gain?

I wind mine around a big yellow antifreeze bottle. I stuffed the inside with those styrofoam popcorn things, so even if it leaks, it floats.
One time a big charter boat snatched up my fancy buoy, but since I started using the plastic antifreeze bottle people have left it alone. Since I usually have my guests wind it up, the winding part is not a problem.

I use a bright orange detergent bottle with tangle free decoy line. You can unwind the line to the appropriate length, then pass the weight through the handle. Stays over the mark that way.
OD, you're a smart man. I'll havda start lettin my guests wind tha strang.

Isn,t terminology across oceans a strange thing ?
You say "trunk", we say "boot".
You say "hood", we say "bonnet".
You say "guest", we say "servant".

Cranfield, while we're on the subject of being servile. Why don't you enlighten us on the meanings of "batman," and "footman."

Most of us use the detergent bottle because the store bought ones are expensive. I would say the best one I have seen or used is the SureMark one. I know several folks that have them and like them. Pool noodles make good markers as well. You can make 2 or 3 at different lengths for different depths.
