Got to the ramp at 0730. Was no else there except me and partner. Carefully whizzed down the river and out onto the flats. Moderately rough...but very fishable. Proceeded on to the honey hole....on the flats....and had two limits of trout by 0930...on C/T with white gulp shrimp and red & white Catch 2000. Water temp was 69.2 degrees on the flats....72 degrees at the ramp.
Saw a site I don't think I have ever witenessed. Water got absolutely calm about 1030. Big things began to tare the water up in countless places. Fins were seen in many different places. I saw several different speckled trout jump out of the water...like salmon do. Had a few top water hits during the time but didn't hookem. One particular big something had his fin out of the water within casting range....and I tied into him on 12 lb line. He quickly spooled my reel....stopped...and then took off and broke my line. Maybe it was a huge cobio...cause I caught about a 4 pounder a few minutes later. After about 1 hour...this weird activity ceased....and the fishing was much harder.
Throwed back about 2 limits of keepersduring the morning hours. Few shorts were caught the whole time we were there.
:D

Last week during the mornings there were large schools of
blues and jacks working the area in front of Aucilla....
one morning I put down the electric motor and stayed with a
school for awhile until I felt I had donated enough tackle.

I also thought I saw some trout jumping at times.

Thanks for the report....sounds like a great time for sure!

Sounds like a great time, way to go!!

Sounds like a schools of Jacks and Blues, with some Cobia and trout thrown in. Lots of time the trout will follow behind a school of fish that are feeding and eat the left overs for any easy meal, Cobia probably do the same thing seeing how the follow everthing else in the ocean.
