Up at 5am  to hit some daylight top water action on the glass smooth waters of the econfina... not to happen, wind about blew my teeth out, and not the fronts the wisdom.... :-D...

Terrible day early, when the wind died enough to get to some bars, I did manage a fat 27 inch 7lb red, and a undersized one before i had to scoot back home.... both on gold spoons... had the skitterwalk and super spook blew up on but couldn't hook up...

saw an interesting site, several hundred mullet in a creek, in several pods, with the tips of their head just sticking outta the water, didn't know what it was for along time... all were between 6-14 inches.. cast netted a couple larger ones for sampling....

I know you all know what one looks like- but here's the red that will be consumed tomorrow night.Image

You sure those "floating heads" were mullet? We saw several groups of them, and could never figure out what they were. My best guess was that they were baby otters. It was definately an odd sight.

Eldest son Mark and I went west of Econfina into couple creeks
around Long Point Sunday am and saw several pods of the same
thing....sure looked like 6-8" mullet. Something would tear into them
every few minutes. All the pods we saw were right around the
creek mouths. When we came out on still high tide we didn't see any more. Interesting sight for sure!

Nice Red

I saw mullet with their heads sticking out of the water one time several years ago. It was on the west side of Bob Sikes towards the bay. All were on the small side -- about 10 - 12" as I recall. Darndest thing I ever saw. Even more surprising is that they didn't spook as we approached. Caught about 30 in one toss of a bait net. Some of the best fish I ever had in my life :lick:
