Re: Kerplunk Went The Teramar
Dude...right behind the Kerplunk should have been a large splash created by your buddy going after it. I've dropped a bunch of combos in the water, but lost very few. Exactly. Hell, I've jumped in a river to get a 4.00 jig back from a log. A rod and reel? Less than 15-20 feet, hold my cellphone, I'...

Re: Am I crazy for wanting to try this? St Vincent bass fish
Hmmm, I like catching redfish as much as I like catching bass and they both love topwater and spinnerbaits :-D Sounds like it's probably worth a trip to check out anyway, if only for the scenery. I'm still deployed at the moment but I'll be back for a few weeks in September, think I'll give it a sho...

Am I crazy for wanting to try this? St Vincent bass fishing
Okay, ever since I read an old article from the 70's about a wildlife biologist catching and releasing a 18lb bass in St Vincent's freshwater ponds I've had a crazy plan to take a kayak in there. Throw it on the deck of a boat, have someone run me to the mouth of the brackish creek that runs into th...

Re: today's find
Beautiful healthy looking snake. They do their part in controlling the pest population. Glad to see there's at least one person around that's not an idiot who kills every venomous snake they see. With that kind of logic you should kill every alligator you see, you know, cause "some kid somewher...

Re: St Marks River question
Nope.
Gotta make friends with someone that lives on the river. If you can't do that then hitching a ride to the rapids on a powerboat is the best way to get up there.. Current is terrible.

Re: Possible World Record?
http://news.wfsu.org/post/marianna-woman-snags-world-record-bream That's pretty cool. I'd never caught one of those until fairly recently, there's a blackwater cypress pond in the ANF that doesn't have a single bass in it but is loaded with pickerel, mudfish and those fliers. Most any small streame...

Re: Cannibal frog?
Had one do the same thing to my livetarget frog a few years ago at a national forest pond at night. Pitched it out, heard a splash and felt something tug at it. Set the hook and reeled a big bullfrog in! Those guys are merciless.

Re: Braid to Fluoro Knot- The FG knot?
I've been using a 5 turn surgeon's knot as long as I can remember to join braid to mono or fluoro. With that knot, 10lb braid tied to 20lb fluoro leader is strong enough to straighten out hooks on a topwater plug stuck in a log.. Can't imagine this is much stronger than that, but I think I'll try ty...

Re: Cleaning Long-nosed Gar
Just don't mess with Gar eggs they are the most toxic poison to humans from an animal in North America. Uh, no. You'll get sick if you eat them for a few days, that's about it. I'm pretty sure respiratory paralysis and death from eating an improperly prepared pufferfish is way worse than being sick...

Anyone ever fish the freshwater side of Hickory Mound?
Curious if anyone has ever taken a kayak or what have you over there to the freshwater impoundment side of Hickory Mound to fish for bass or bream (or landlocked reds that washed in there during a hurricane...)?

That's straight up BS. Somehow I can't imagine pouring carbonated sugar and acid down a fish's throat as doing them any good.

Grabbed the kayak yesterday and put in at Calico Landing for a few hours of fishing.. Colder than Hillary Clinton's heart and blowing 20+ mph the whole day. Headed a few miles up river using a Zoom Uvibe speed worm and a buzzbait, working the grass clumps and cover. Zilch, two hits that were probabl...
