1st deer of the season

Post by Hit-n-Miss »

It's been a real slow season so far. I did not even go out with my bow due to lack of sign, I even have persimmons on my trees still. Ever since the weekend of early gun for the kids, my boy and I have hunted morning and afternoon both days every weekend. We have seen nothing not even a doe. Well monday afternoon I sat alone and out comes a nice doe. We are completly out of meat at my house so I contemplated shooting her. But I had told my boy if we saw one doe by herself that we would let her walk. So I watched her feed for 10 minutes till she walked off. Thinking the rut is coming soon maybe she'll bring some friends. Tuesday we had scouts so we did not sit. And last night after work I got in the stand at 6:30. Not much going on and it's getting dark. I'm thinking that it's not going to happen. I hear my wifes voice in my head saying that the Lord always provides for us. Not 2 minutes later(at 7:07) that familiar sound of a walking deer comes from the left. He pops out of the woods and starts walking down hill away from me. Times ticking....turn....turn. He turns his head to the right.....BOOM. He weighed 184lbs on the hoof. And now we have meat to eat.

To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.

Congrat on the deer! Nothing like deer meat.

Now that you've got your deer, better grab your reel and go fishing. Trout are jumping in the boat at Keaton! Better check the wind before you go. It's been blowing harder than I want to fish. Thursday was a nice day and we limited out on trout. Got one 22.5" redfish to boot.
