Tilt problems

Post by poppincork »

I have a yamaha 40hp and when I press the up or down tab all I hear is a clicking sound. Does this mean that the switch is ok but something might be wrong with the connections or hydrualic pump motor?

If you are lucky,it means your trim/tilt solenoid is bad.

IT COULD MEAN THAT YOU HAVE A LOOSE CONNECTION, PROBABLY THE GROUND WIRE. DISCONNECT ALL OF YOUR WIRES TO THE TRIM AND SAND THEM DOWN TO BRIGHT METAL AND PUT THEM BACK AND TIGHTEN THE NUTS REAL TIGHT, THEN GIVE IT A TRY, IF IT DOES NOT WORK , WHAT JT SAID WOULD BE THE NEXT AVENUE TO TAKE.

Thanks for the information, I'm going to get the situation solved this weekend so I can get back to fall fishing.

It turned out to be the hydraulic motor......rust had eaten into it and caused a short I supppse. Mike's Marine in Panacea is going to replace it, they are just waiting for a new one to arrive.
