First Trip to Alligator Point

Post by Beehaw »

I am making my first trip to AP later this month. Staying on one of the canals in the SE corner of the bay. I have a fiberglass bay boat, but have never fished this area. Any ideas on general areas to start and what structure is in the area (grass, oysters, etc)

You will have fun and I'm jealous.
There is always something in the deep cut at the end of the point. And its a fun and protected ride up there.
Try live finger mullet on the bottom.

I have caught reds and trout in the canals in cooler weather.
The shoreline along 98 from the clam leases to sun and surf can produce nice reds and trout.
Lots of good grass along there
And don't discount the beach side. If you see big schools of birds the macks may already be out there.
I have caught our dinner of trout, macks and reds on the beach while the girls are playing in the sand.

Oh yea- take a run out to dog island reef if its a calm day.
AMAZING PLACE! No telling what you will find out there. It is really just a grass flat 5 miles off shore.
Its the first place we see macks in the spring and I lost what may have been my biggest trout ever out there... It was over 30.
