Keaton Beach 6/04-05

Post by ddb »

Fished Keaton Beach with a friend the 4th and the 5th. We had a pretty good day on Saturday winding up with 9 trout with one at 24 and one at 22. We also picked up 3 reds with one falling in the slot and a flounder. We never got into a solid bite with 5 on the rise and a few more on the fall. Our best success for trout was in 4-5'. Water temps were a warm 82-86. Sunday we got chased around by storms until we had enough of that and headed home. Not before we hooked up and brought in a 38" cobia though. After gaining back 1/2 of his lost spool with the boat, a 45 minute battle, and a near 'mis-hap' at the boat, we managed to get it in the cooler.

Grass was fairly bad. Plug fishing was tough. I had thought it was somewhat better than two weeks ago, but I imagine it's bad again.

Thanks for the comments. The cobia was a nice bonus. I still haven't gotten into a hot trout bite yet this year. A few here a few there. But we did catch some solid fish on Saturday.

Sure. Most of the trout were caught on pinfish, but we also caught a few on some lipped plugs. The grass was tough though. We picked up two of the reds, and one trout, on a spinner bait with an assortment of dark plastics, and one red was picked up on a pinfish.
