Fishing Magazine Advice

Post by Beehaw »

I am new to the forum, and reasonbly new to inshore fishing. I have a lot of experience freshwater fishing, mostly for bass. It is official, I am now hooked on inshore fishing. I am curious what magazines some of you would recommend that covers a lot of inshore fishing. I am familiar with a lot of saltwater magazine titles, but I don't know if some deal with inshore vs. offshore.

"Florida Sportsman" and "Saltwater Angler" are both good. Both will have a mixture of inshore and offshore (FS also has some hunting and freshwater mixed in). I also have a subscription to "GAFF", but I don't particularly care for the articles, they generally aren't very informative. If you're looking for a more local magazine with good local info, pick up a "Woods n Water". It's kind of like a newspaper with articles on a mixture of all kinds of hunting and fishing, and it's published right here in Perry.

GAFF is read at my house religiously. They're also local and good folks there.

Who reads GAFF for the articles anyway? :smt112

I enjoyed Shallow Water Angler for a while. Main reason I let it lapse is that it is not too local.

My vote goes to Saltwater Sportsman and Sportfishing magazines...both have great inshore and off articles... Florida Sportsman has seriously downgraded the size of it's magazine and it isn't half the magazine it used to be...just not worth the price any more IMO.....and word has it that Gaff will no longer publish the cheese cake shots that accounted for most of it's sales... That's a shame.

I write the Fishing Forecast for the Big Bend region for GAFF. I also write the Boat Talk column, how-to/destination features and FishAbility boat tests for Salt Water Sportsman, as well as feature articles for Tide, ESPN Outdoors Saltwater and others. Thanks for the plugs, Chalk and Juan.
