I ran across a school of them last October about 9 miles south of Dog Island.

We have seen and caught them a couple miles SW of O Tower. They were all peanuts though. Still fun on light tackle.

I caught one off the pier in Panama City Beach, and have seen others caught there. But that is very rare.

Last summer we caught some in the bouy line at Mexico Beach. There were flying fish all around too. On Ranaman's boat we found a school of small peanuts at a public spot in close to Carabelle. I think we were in about 50 feet of water but I couldn't get a look at the depth finder screen with his big jug head in the way. The 36" mahi I caught last summer was on public numbers off Mexico beach in about 90 feet of water. We almost always get a few smaller swim up to the boat on those spots and they are suckers for a chunk of bait on a hidden bare hook.
Any time you are bottom fishing in water over 30 feet deep keep an eye out for them around the boat. They show up regularly.

Small dolphin can be caught regularly off the Panhandle beaches from Panama City west, often within sight of the bikinis. They love warm water and weed lines.

When I first moved over here from Pensacola, my boss took me fishing out of St. Marks. As we were drifting the flats for trout, I asked him how far out you had to run to find dolphin locally. His reply:

"Cancun."

Maybe if we all wear bikinis out on our boats, we can entice them closer to our area!

JUG HEAD WAS TRYING TO BLOCK YOU FROM SEEING THE NUMBER RHETT" :-D It was 55 ft and 11or so miles from Dog island,

However, closest was 2.2 miles in sight of bikinis as silverking said out of Panama city and they were not peanuts the king was 19lbs

I am not sure it would be worth seeing Woopty in a bikini just to catch a Mahi. :smt005
