Keaton 5-18-16

Post by SS-342 »

Our son called around ten Saturday morning wanting to go fishing. Cautioned him that mama and I went Thursday and found no one home - came back with two keeper trout. But, who can turn down a chance to go fishing even if half the day is over? Loading up and adjusting our schedule for the remainder of the day, we headed to Keaton. Stopped at Rocky's in Shady Grove for bait and sandwiches and found Gulp Shrimp, white with orange tails. Filling up with bait and snacks we continues on to the boat ramp.

Got in the water a little after twelve and headed north. Our first stop - FISH WERE HOME! Went farther north and found them home again. The bite was slow but steady, light with just a peck but they wore us out! Left around seven with 16 good trout from 17 to 20 inches. Caught some of everything - even cobia but no keeper cobia.

White gulf shrimp with orange tails was the ticket!

Great report. You fish north or south?

We fished north. Made two stops. One out from Yates Creak and Spring Warrior about 2 miles out and the other one about the same distance but between Spring Warrior and Rock Island.

Sorry about date. It was May 21st, Saturday - yesterday. Looking at the month of April instead of May this morning.

We've had some poor trips lately but Saturday was a good one. You never know!

Makes me think of an old saying to the question, "When is the best time to go fishing?"

Answer: If you can't go today, go tomorrow. If you can't go tomorrow, go the first chance you get." :D

Very true, we only caught 4 trout between 2 boats and 6 people over 2 days, should have went further north.
