I wrote them on red and gag feedback.
Still believe aggregate system/limit is best…. Longer fishing season, way lower bycatch loss

Re: EPIRB recommendations
My understanding is that the PLB has 24 hr signal duration, full size epirb has 48…..
PLB is smaller and easy to pack.
Also, if they ain’t found you in 24 hrs………

Re: What does a red grouper pothole or Swiss cheese bottom look like?
Neat photos.
The red grouper actually fan
Out and burrow out their little holes….
They look like bream beds some times …..

Re: So following up on the Gag discussion
I looked at the latest gulf council meeting minutes….. mainly the public comments. No one believes the data and they know it…. Truth is, unless you are looking at commercial landings, it’s hard to have accurate tally. I feel it is most important to know what’s really out there…. I be been diving sin...

Re: Carrabelle Offshore On March 20
When we spear a fish in the brain or spine, the fish gets floppy ….. interestingly, it never firms up, even when iced… makes it harder to clean…

Re: So following up on the Gag discussion
Catch data will always have accuracy issues and extrapolation issues. What is actually out there is much more revealing….. As divers , we have a great feel year to year what is happining with each type of fish. Ups and downs. The other benefit of the aggregate based limit for reef fish is with the r...

Thinking about making a pop in visit to the new FWC office in Tallahassee….. afraid that if I try to make an appt, they won’t answer or put me off until next winter.
I just want someone to listen !!!

Re: So following up on the Gag discussion
We get hosed either way…. If we tell a surveyor we caught a limit, then we are catching too many……. If we say we caught none, then there are no fish so they have to close it. No win I can tell you that we have been super thrilled at what we are seeing out there diving… More big and small gags everyw...

Re: So following up on the Gag discussion
It’s a punch in the gut when the fish are everywhere and we can’t even keep one!

Re: So following up on the Gag discussion
I apppreciate the effort and discussion guys…. Some of my buddies are almost at the point of giving up. I started a thread on this same column about rethinking harvest expectations…. We were not surveyed one time last season. As divers, we can tell them what is really down there…. The quotas and cat...

Re: So following up on the Gag discussion
If gags are so scare, it’s funny we busted the quota in 8 weeks where 1 year prior we didn’t bust it in 8 months.

Eating Bonito, not a joke
This is mainly for those who love raw or seared tuna…. 2-3 years ago I began to wonder why a fish that looks like a tuna and swims like a tuna could taste so different. Growing up in the 80s in Florida all the old timers would say , “bloody shark bait” that’s all they are…. My suspicion is that they...

Re: Red Grouper to the Right, Gag Grouper to the Left, and a Few Red Snapper for the Cooler
For better size and numbers of sea bass, there can’t be any big gags around…. Or really any gag grouper.
We dive and see it over and over…. Look for hard bottom areas with no more than 1 ft relief

Re: Feedback for legitimate recommendation to FWC (reef fish)
Thanks for feedback. As a diver, I can tell you without a doubt, nearly every structure, natural or artificial, from dog island to st marks, is covered up with gags…. In 12 years diving the area, I’ve never seen so many. Also, all age classes are represented. Spots where I’d never seen keeper gags a...

Re: Feedback for legitimate recommendation to FWC (reef fish)
Thanks for the feedback…. I agree with the problems with regulation for sure…. I’ve lived my whole life in Florida, fishing and diving the whole time…. This is really a compromise to be able to bring home a fish dinner or two most of the year…..if you eat the ribs, backs , throats, fillets and cheek...
