Re: Wakulla River Historical Help
They boiled saltwater to collect the salt, which was used to preserve fish and beef. I've seen the remains of the old salt vats on the refuge, not much to look at. They were destroyed when the boys in blue invaded.

St Marks sandbar
I don’t post often, but thought this was worthy of discussion. I took my family out to the St. Marks sand bar on the fourth of July for a short outing. I’ve been boating and swimming at the sand bar for over forty years and never, with all the boats around and children swimming have I seen someone ...

Re: Dog, coyote or coydog
It's not a red wolf! There's only two red wolfes on St. Vincent's and both of them have radio collars. That's a coyote with mange.

Re: Pinfish?
I've done the pinfish route, traps and castnets. I'm too old and lazy for that now, I want to hit the water and get going. I use shinners. Yep fresh water shinners. They work fine, live about 10- 15 min in the water, easy to keep alive and they get eaten which is the most important thing.

Re: Chart Question
It's been awhile since I looked at that chart, but heading east those submerged piles were posts from the old bird guano racks that where all over the flats. I still see some of them on extremely low tides, but most of the have rotted away.

That plug looks like it has better action than a strech 30. Where did you purchase it?

Re: can my rod be fixed?
If you just replace the tip, the action will never be the same. The best way to repair your rod is to remove all the guides and reset them. You can go to mudhole tackle, they have a spacing guide that will help you figure out the correct location. As far as thread, you can purchase nylon rod thread ...

Re: Scalloping 7/11
I was on the St. Marks flats both days this weekend scalloping and had a wonderful time with my family and friends. On Sunday however, I caught a boat in the side of my face. Yes, I had a dive flag up and I was within a 100' of my boat. Someone, I don't know who, was drift fishing right through the ...
