Granted I'm no expert, but if I was you I'd go to at least 40lb test, and 80lb leader. Gives you a better chance at the big ones...

'poon fishin' tips?

Well, I'm going to give the ol' poon a go this weekend. It will be my first time consciously attempting to catch a Tarpon. I got my spot, and a baitrunner 6500 with 270 yards of 20 lb test Ande mono (6' of 60lb leader)... now I'm wondering if I should go with 30lb test or even greater?

Any tips ...

Or better yet, support your local businesses and go down to Jerry's bait and tackle... They have some pretty nice rod reel packages under $40 .

I got to fish over by Stuart (I think) with my soon to be brother in law (Matt) a few months back...

It was in the intercostal and you could see a launch pad from the space center to the south...

Anyways, there's not really a tide there so you can hit the flats virtually anytime... We polled ...

Yes, Cedar Key has me spoiled on Red Fish... Got a few honey holes that Rarely let me down...

But I'm new to fishing in the Tallahassee area...

My first summer creek excursion (around 3 weeks ago) was a bust (one catfish and a few pins)... thank goodness for the flats where I went in the afternoon ...

I've done lots of fishing a bit north of Clearwater... You'll find trout and Tarpon around a place called Fred Howard Beach in Tarpon Springs,,, you'll find snook and Reds in the area as well and especially up Anclote River... you can have lunch at the Sponge Docks at the mouth of the Anclote. You ...

Redfish in the creeks in the summer

Take 3.....

I've caught Redfish way back in the creeks all year long down in Cedar Key...

My buddy says that he only fishes the creeks up in this area in the winter months...

Is it worth prowling around back in the creeks for Reds in the middle of the summer in this area?
