Scallops at St. Marks
Are they still out there? Haven't been scalloping since that first weekend after June 25th. Was hoping to get out one more time before the season closed.
If so, are they still where the main flotilla usually is and in what depth of water?
Thanks guys,
Whaler

Re: Missing Angler
Very sad. I can only assume he hit an underwater rock at plane speed and was knocked unconscious. A scary thought considering it could very well be anyone else boating out there.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Re: Gulps?
I did a number on the trout with the natural color on the flats. I heard somewhere you're supposed to use whatever color matches your environment - i.e. natural on flats, new penny over sandy/transition bottom, etc.

Fishing out of Lanark
Hey everyone, just finished up having some blackened redfish. Fantastic as always :D
Anyway, I'm heading out to Lanark on Sunday. I haven't fished out of there in years; you'll usually find me at St. Marks or St. George. I was looking for some advice on where to go for reds and trout once I put in ...

Re: Scallop Reports
Went out on Saturday. Found them in deeper water this time, ~8'. The flotilla was about 1/4 mile west of the rock garden. We looked a couple of places in less than 5', but didn't find many there. If you saw a boat drift past, dragging the anchor, with the captain swimming like mad for 1/2 mile to ...

Re: St George Island fishing
I'm heading down to St. George for a whole week on Sunday. We're staying on the bay side with a dock. We'll be able to head out early and head out late with relative ease. I'll report back if that's the secret to the fishing!

Re: Carrabelle 7/6
Sounds like a decent day. Not to harass you or anything, but what direction from the Lanark landing did you see the tarpon (althought I know you didn't put in there). I'm might try and go tarpon fishing! thanks.

Re: Fishing/Scalloping St. Marks 7/2/11
I fished the flats just west of the Rock Garden; just north of the flotilla. Caught a nice 20" trout, and made sure to stay clear of the flotilla

Re: St. Marks 7/2
Went out to St. Marks today. Tons of scallopers. Landed on nice 20" trout on flats near Rock Garden, and saw a massive tarpon surface right near our boat over on the West Flats. Only action pretty much of the day...

Re: St George Island fishing
If you have a 4X4 ask park guide to buy a pass that will let you go down to the end of the park. there is a gate that he will give you the code to and drive until it dead ends. You will be fishing in the East pass btw Dog Island and SGI. You can catch mackeral, trout, reds, jacks, and sharks. Also ...

Re: St. Marks 7/2
I've had good action past couple of trips on the flats just west of the rock garden. If you can get out there before scallopers arrive they are excellent grass flats!

Shorty's Bouy at SGI
I recently purchased one of the Florida Sportsman area maps for the region that includes St. George Island. I've fished there in the past, and know of the usual spots, but I saw a mark called 'Shorty's Buoy'. It's off the beach side, only about a mile offshore in 30 feet of water.
