Re: Anybody fished Piney Z Lake this year?
I contacted FWC in late January, they said there was indeed a fish kill probably caused by algae bloom/oxygen depletion. Biologist said it was a small fish kill, whatever that means?? Area to the west of Piney-Z is Upper Lake Lafayette......it does fill up from time to time but drains into sinkhole ...

Re: Anybody familiar with Snipe Island?
ya'll are correct that a stretch of the Upper Pinhook runs thru the Aucilla/Pinhook Still hunt area and thru a portion of Flintrock Mgmt Area. Then it continues on and enters the St Marks Refuge south of Pinhook Still Hunt Area. Both Flintrock and Pinhook Still Hunt areas are bordered on the south ...

Re: Piney Z lake
There is a dirt parking lot midway around the circular drive. You will see a closed gate leading to the trail to the launch area and the hiking/biking trails. There's big sign with fishing regulations/map/etc. You park there and unload your boat and carry it to the launch area. I fish from a canoe ...

Re: Piney Z lake
There is one..........hand launch only........no trailers allowed. You must carry your boat about 100 or so feet from the parking lot down a hill and out on a finger to a sand/gravel area .......paddles or elecric motors only.

Re: New to hunting
Your groups aren't too bad considering that you were shooting off the hood of a vehicle (they were at least M.O.S.....Minute Of Shoulder on a deer out to a couple of hundred yards). A bag on a truck hood is not a steady platform from which to see how well your rifle shoots. Get to a range...sit down ...

Re: A couple of map reading questions
Those spots marked "Platform ruins" were a more or less square group of pilings with a wooden platform on top. They were more commonly called bird roosts. The cormorants/pelicans/etc roosted on these platforms and the poop (Guano) was collected regularly and used/mixed/sold for fertilizer. There ...

Re: New to hunting
Ditto what T-macks said !!! Trigger time will tell you a lot and help put your mind at ease. Tighten the scope abses and rings properly, get a box or two of 150 grain Core-lokts or Power Points or Power-Shoks and go punch some holes in paper. If one of these brands doesn't shoot well, take the rifle ...
