Do you use the stinger hook as a trailing hook (flying loose) or do you hook it in? In other words, do you hook one in the mouth and one behind the dorsal, or do you hook one behind the dorsal and let one trail around the tail?

St Marks - 7/13 and 7/15

Hi Everyone,

My brother and his three teenage boys were in town this weekend, so I rented a boat from Shell Island and we all headed out on Friday. We got out onto the East Flats about 7 AM and started hitting trout right away. Our most success came from bouncing Gulp! shrimp off the bottom in 8-10 ...

I once had a similar problem - every time I tried to get the boat on plane, the motor petered out. Turned out in my case that my fuel line was not clipped onto the gas tank and each time the front of the boat came up, the gas tank slid back just enough that it pulled the fuel line out of the tank. I ...

Casting Nets - Bait Fish

Anyone got a recommendation on a good, cheap, casting net? I have been using a Sabiki and it is a pain.

Thanks,

-Bill

Boat or Charter Needed - May 4

Hi Everyone,

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I have some friends coming into town on May 4 to go fishing inshore. There are four of us total. I have a small 14 ft boat that seats two comfortably, three painfully and four not at all.

I figured we would rent a larger flats ...

It sure is frustrating when you feel like you are more likely to get something to jump into the boat than you are to catch it fair and square. Be glad you didn't see anything! I was told by an older gentleman at the dock to use a gator spoon next time.

St. Marks 4/14 and 4/15

Hi Everyone,

I had some friends in town and we were lucky enough to get out on Friday and Saturday. Beautiful days!

On Friday, we didn't do so good. We stopped by Jerry's and he said that he didn't have any live shrimp so we headed out with lures. Went E to the rocks and didn't have any trout ...

I went out last Sunday and had an experience similar to yours, Reel. I was drifting in very shallow flats in front of creeks east of the lighthouse and caught about a dozen, mostly short. They didn't start to hit until late morning and then turned off around 1PM. I don't know if it is water ...

Dear Tailin,

I have been fishing around the lighthouse for 4 years now, and I started with a small 12 ft jon boat, which probably was the best thing that I could have done. I since have moved up to a 14 ft flats boat - no cadillac either, but I can get out in 1 ft waves without feeling like I'm ...

MJ,

Thanks! I will give it a try. Like I said, I don't plan to use it, except when I have to!

Now, if this weather would only break so I can get out there....

Thanks

Gentlemen,

As usual, you all have been very helpful, despite the fact that you disagree on the specifics.

I am inclined to go the PVC route because I do not intend to do much real poling. I have a small 14 ft tri-hull Prosport with an old Johnson 40 HP on it. No poling platform. I usually drift ...

Poling the Flats

Hey Guys,

I have been thinking about buying a pole for my little flats boat. I don't want to spend much money and am wondering what works best. Any comments are appreciated.
