Fished Saturday and Sunday setting casting distance records.
The fish seemed so scattered to the East of the lighthouse. Ended up with one 23” red in the box over both days.
Anyone else have the same experience with scattered fish?

Re: West Flats PSA for Windy Days
Absolutely true Chris, the east flats can get real skinny quickly on those days.
The right wind and tide combo will reveal so many rocks, many seemingly random, East of the lighthouse in areas that you thought were just flats. Will make you think twice of haulin ass through some areas.

Salt Water Trolling Motor Recommendations
I'm looking to upgrade the trolling motor for salt water and wanted to ping everyone for their opinion on brands and options. Especially models with blue-tooth remote controls and i-pilots - are they worth the green for the bells and whistles?

Steve,
Try throwing bluefish fillets into red wine vinegar. Will take all the oily mess out of them.

Re: Fishing Report - Last few Trips
Thanks for the recommendation. That's a healthy size bull. Last summer had a shark that size, looked like a bull, swim underneath the boat about 2.5 mi off shore drifting along a floating grass line. Those experiences are worth the trip.

Fishing Report - Last few Trips
It's been a minute because of work & life but wanted to share some observations from my last few trips over the last couple weeks.
It's been the best trout bite streak of my life. Over the last 3 trips I've landed at least 17 fat trout from 20" - 25" and lost one that was easily over 25". Some of ...

Re: Favorite Fish to Eat
Standard: Redfish, blackening seasoning, butter in a blazing hot cast iron skillet.
Also I'll take sea salt & peppered Spanish with garlic & thyme sauteed in butter.
Also anything deep fried, because, the South!

Got into a bunch of 12-14, with smalls mixed in off a bar on the edge of the channel down the St. Mark's yesterday

keep it because it swallowed the hook damn good.

Quality, Not Quanity
With the strong tidal coefficient we went out of the Fort instead of St. Marks refuge.
Fished one of the bars in the mouth of St. Marks. Saw one monster bull red and some sheepshead, but didn't catch anything.

Tons of unique water to explore. If the boat is built and equipped for it skinny water is a load of fun to fish and explore.
Keep changing things up when things get slow. You'll learn a lot. Catch 'em!

Back from the hiatus of dealing with that R word, responsibilities, and got time to fish
this weekend. Beautiful conditions each day with the water eventually turning to glass.
