Re: How to splice coax cable for fishfinder?
It's an old unit, so I ain't buying a new cable. I'll let you know if the repair works or not. So some of the bits leak out of the splice... I'll just have to adjust. If it says 10 feet, maybe it is really 12 feet (or 8) -- I'll use a long stick to figure it out the old way -- we'll see. Thanks to ...

Re: How to splice coax cable for fishfinder?
Thanks for the nice write-up, Jsuber, but its not RG-59 or RG-6, it is coax "like" that but about 1/2 the diameter. Anyway if Chalk has tried it leaving a little part of the core wire unshielded, and his fishfinder didn't go haywire, I'll just connect it that way.

Re: How to splice coax cable for fishfinder?
You would have to buy the transponder too, as this one is a sealed unit with a cable. It just isn't worth spending any money on, as this old Eagle unit is so old that we will just toss it if this splice doesn't work.

Re: Opening day scallops.
We have been scalloping a few times a season out of Steinhatchee for the last couple of years have always been able to get our limit there. I just go straight out the channel until you get the end of the markers (marker #1) and hang a left (SSE) and go a couple of miles until you see the other boats ...

How to splice coax cable for fishfinder?
In order to remove it from an old boat I am stripping, I had to cut the coax cable for the fishfinder. Now I would like to give it to a buddy (who I fish with) to install in his boat, but he is scared of trying to splice this cable. I was in the Army (many yrs. ago) and in electronics repair, so I ...

Re: 85 Black Corvette. Carrabelle
I am posting this for my friend. A good project car or fixer upper. An 85 Corvette 5.7 liter. Has 100,000 miles but engine was rebuilt 10,000 miles ago back in 2003. It was also repainted. Interior needs work. No stereo, A/C needs work. Car runs as is just needs some work. Call Freda at (850)528 ...

Re: Beautiful Yellow Lab needs a loving home...
He's a sweet looking dog and I wish I could add him to the 3 dogs I have already. But I applaud you for picking him up and taking care of him. Hopefully someone on the forum can check with their friends and help you find him a home.

Re: Optima battery charging problem
Thanks for the info, my optima charged back up ok on a trickle charge, although it did charge at a lot higher amps than a normal battery. It just ran down because I left the radio on I think, not a bad battery.

Re: Optima battery charging problem
It is suppose to be charged at 10 amps - I believe. I always disconnected mine after a charge, do you have a main battery switch?
I had heard these batteries were different, but I don't understand much about them. A normal 10 amp charging rate would probably explain how it could suck so much ...

Optima battery charging problem
Since the river has been so low here, I have had my boat in the yard for a month or so. As I went out to do the maintenance change on the batteries today, I ran into a problem. While the regular wet cell trolling motor batteries just needed topping off, when I hooked the charger up to the Optima ...

Re: SS vs Aluminum?
I agree that you get better performance with a SS prop, but for the types of fishing I do -- freshwater bass fishing and inshore salt -- I am still firmly in the aluminum camp. I would have hated to have this happen with a SS prop.

Find a cheaper FM/VHF band separator/splitter?
I need to use my VHF antenna as my FM antenna also. This can be done with one of these splitters. But as much as I shop the Internet, I can't find one that is reasonable. $37.99 before shipping is about the best I can do - that's just too much for a little box with a couple of components in it ...
