DBPlug,

That was me in the "something bass" boat! It's actually Sea Boss. Boy, you sure put us to shame. We saw you reeling them in right and left. We caught a couple of trout (one keeper) when we got close to you, but that was it. The live shrimp may have been the secret. All we could get at ...

Sorry,

I just got back into town. All I know is that you can launch from Shield's. I don't know about the other ramps.

Went down to Shield's Marina today and they are open for business! Certainly not full service at this point, but they can at least put your boat in the water for you. Not sure if their phone is working yet. As of noon today it wasn't.

They have done a great job of cleaning it up. At first glance ...

Where to Go in Steinhatchee?

Assuming I can get my boat out of Shield's Marina, I'm going to tow it down to Steinhatchee on Thursday. Any suggestions as to where to look for redfish and trout? First time that I've been there.

Shields Marina and Hurricaine

How 'bout those pictures from Shield's Marina? I've got a boat there in dry dock and I'm assuming it's OK. Has anyone talked to the folks there? I was hoping to take my boat out on Thursday and am wondering if I'll be able to get it.

Hope everyone survived the storm.

Sorry to hear it. Did you by chance mark it on your GPS?

Had a couple of encounters this past week as well. Mine were in the rock garden. Fortunatley no damage.

Got a few more coordinates for rocks in the Rock Garden. One was found by the lower unit of my outboard! Fortunately no damage.

First rock (the one I hit) - N30 04.529 W84 07.502

Other rock: N30 04.433 W84 07.555

How Do I Catch a Cobia?

Any sugestions as to how to catch a cobia? What kind of rig do you use and what type bait? Any suggestions as to where to look. I understand that they are on the flats and a good place to go is bird rack. I'm not looking to do any deep water fishing although could go as far as the St. Mark's reef.

For what is is worth, I just watched the Big Bend Angler Fishing Show with Captain Randle Leger and it was all about the Cajun Thunder.

He says all he uses is a 12" leader irregardless of water depth. He says that it they are hungry the ruckus the Cajun Thunder makes will bring them to the surface ...

Re: GPS for Rock Garden

Does anyone have GPS numbers for the rocks in the Rock Garden? The major ones I have from this and the OAR site and from riding around but its the smaller subsurface ones that worry me. Like the one that wreaked lower unit a few years back.

I've marked a couple of rocks.
1. N30 04.321 W84 07.732 ...

I appreciate everyone's help on this topic. I particularly like that computer application that Tin Can provided.

One more question. When it gives the tide height, what is it using as a reference? For example, tomorrow high tide is 3.64 feet at 12:15 and negative 0.11 at 8:11.

Has anyone seen Peter's Rock?

Has anyone ever really seen Peter's Rock at St. Marks? I have been out there a couple of times and have found nothing but 7-10 feet of water.

Jerry's has great things to say about this area:

"This rock does not break the surface, but it comes close. The water depth here is seven feet and smaller ...

What is this PVC pipe technique for storing these leaders? I've tried searching the site and have been unable to find this info.
Thanks!

One last question. Doesn't the tide come in and go out at a constant rate? If so, the water should always be moving. Maybe it is best around the tide change because the water is changing directions and stirring things up a bit. Just a thought.

Thanks for your replies.

Just to get this straight. An hour before and and hour after a tide change seems to be best. Does it matter if it is high or low tide? Is one better than the other?

Also, why does this matter? Is the tide moving the bait and causing the fish to feed or is it something else?
