Speaking of toothy critters, I had a (fresh water) jack bite clean through 30# braid this afternoon.

I have also heard from a friend that closing the bail on spinning rods manually is a must.

For a crappy reel like a shakespear, I would agree. I had the the bail wire fall off my first shakespear ...

I use 2' off a mono leader for cast and reel. Still no problems with toothy critters.

I've never had that problem (1)(2). Although, I tie mine 2'-4' up from the hook.

Soaking in milk for 30 minutes will make them taste like chicken.

I've not done the bleed, gut, hook and release. I'll have to try that next time. I usually slit the neck to the spine and tie the tail to the platform, letting it bleed out into the engine well.

I keep bonnet heads and black tips ...

Live Oak Island, Live Oak Point, it just depends on who made the map you're looking at.

If you put in at Shell Point and run east, you'll have a whole lot shorter run than if you put in at the lighthouse and head west. :wink:

It might help to check the sat photos before you go. The pictures show ...

Saturday we went to the beach area north of the birdrack: no scallops
went to the sandbar 1 mile east of Live oak island: no scallops.

To echo the previous poster, I caught two 5 foot sharks at the entrance to the west flats trench Saturday.

Sea turtle seem to get more numerous in June July and August. I believe they eat jellyfish, so more jellyfish probably=more turtles.
