I'm with everyone else, bigger is better. That being said, I think a 55 will work, it'll just be a question of how many hrs you'll get with 1 battery. Just my opinion but I think you would get at least a couple of hrs of slow speed trolling from the 55 and a Optima or Odyssey type battery. Another o...

70# should be plenty. My 70# Minn Kota on my 18' Tidewater works just fine. If you can afford it, get remote control. I fish from back of boat and can control motor from there.
