Bahamas '07 Trip

Post by Speardivertampa »

Spent a week with family and freinds in Treasure Cay last week. Trolling was slow but we managed to get afew nice Dolphin, Yellowfin, and more blackfin than we could handle. Spearing we got some nice hogfish, muttons, small black/nassau/and tiger grouper, and chased the big blacks and yellowfins around all day in beautiful vis with our peashooter slings. We will stay in Marsh next year over treasure, the nightlife was a little slow at the Marina Bar in treasure :) Anyway it was a good time!

Highlights of the trip included:
-Taking several 8lb hogfish w/ slings freediving in 40-50'
-Reeling a small(2lb) blackfin in that had eaten a cedar plug to have a 30lb bull come up and eat the blackfin/plug combo.
-Making fun of my dad and uncle for the last day of the trip for going out without us one day and speeding up the boat to keep the baits away from a Blue Marlin they had raised b/c they thought it was a shark :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

Yep, no more than 20lb of bottom fish and only 6 pelagics on the boat at any time.

The laws over there had always said that non-residents couldn't spearfish. In order to spearfish we had to get the customs officer to approve us spearfishing in writing on the back of our fishing permits. This was always the proper procedure just never inforced.
