Aucilla 3-24-06

Post by DixieReb »

Finally got to go with the wife fish'in again. Put in at 0930 and headed west. Set up drift with CT and gulps, got a good keeper and lost another one, then no more bites there. Caught a few small pins and kept working west, tide was about out by then. Only action was 3 quick cutoffs both of us got. Drifted past a bar and tied on a wire leaded, first cast got 17" spanish. Good fighter, in the box. :lick: We stayed in that area with pins and CT and got 2 more good trout and several shorts on grubs. It was about 1330 by now and I tried to take us out further, wind got up and really blew. And the bite stopped. We tried some rocks close by and she got a 19'' fat trout on topdog R/W. After then we tried to fish the flats but it was too rough. Made it over to the ditch at Aucilla and got another 17'' spanish and 3 big sailcats. Kept the biggest one, about 4 lb. No more trout bites, I thought they'd bite best in the afternoon with high tide but the wind was unreal. Left the water about 1630 with a good mess of fish, we were both happy. It was good to be out again, ready to go back. :smt004 I thought we might get a red but it didn't happen.
