Icky - Saturday

Post by Mark K »

Borrowed brothers boat and took brother-in-law. BIL is an offshore fisherman and hadn't fished the flats much and had never caught a Red before. So that was the first order of business - a 19in Red really puts up a good fight and he thought so too. With no more reds wanting what we were throwing I switched to a jig tipped with a gulp. After reading y'alls reports about trout being shallow we decided to try for them while trying to troll out to some deeper water to run the big motor. We didn't make it to far before we started catching trout. After that bite quit we decided to run to our rock bass hole. BIL liked that - sorta like bottom fishing - drop it over the side and troll around the channel. After getting cut off a couple of times we decided to troll for some spanish on the way in. Picked up one big spanish.

Total: 4 trout - 1 dozen or so shorts - all on jigs
1 Red - gold spoon
3 rock bass - 1 dozen or so shorts - all on jigs
1 spanish - spanish rig

A great trip for early in the season. Caught fish all day - wind wasn't ever bad but picked up a little about 1500.
